Najib Gets Rid Of The ISA

najibonstageThe government has kept its promise, and is replacing the Internal Security Act (ISA) with a new bill that will prevent people from being arrested for their political beliefs or detained indefinitely without trial.
The Security Offences (Special Measures) Bill 2012 was tabled in parliament by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz. It is believed to be one of two new laws that the Prime Minister had promised would replace ISA.
"The proposed Act seeks to repeal the ISA while recognising the grave risks to internal security and public order presented by the threat of terrorism, sabotage and espionage," read the explanatory statement in the bill.
