Sarawak Land Owners Can Renew Lease At Any Time - Awang Tengah

SRI AMAN (Sarawak), July 14 (Bernama) -- Land owners in Sarawak can now renew their land lease at any time and can choose a term of between 60 and 99 years, Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said Tuesday.

Up to now, land owners had to wait until five years before termination of the lease to enable the Sarawak Land and Survey Department to renew it, he said at the presentation of lease-extension certificates to 140 land owners at the civic centre, here.

He also said that the land premium fee was reasonable and that land owners could pay in instalments for up to 10 years.

Awang Tengah said the land premium collected was used to develop various infrastructure, including roads.

He also said that the state government planned to organise seminars in Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Sarikei, Mukah and Kapit to explain various issues pertaining to land in Sarawak.

A similar seminar has been held in Bintulu.
