University Reforms to Allow Students to Join Politics
Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's reform programme continues unabated.
The latest step is to allow university students to join political
parties, which fulfils a long-standing demand by student organisations.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin tabled legal amendments in the Dewan Rakyat that would lift a decades-old ban on the involvement of university students in politics and allow them to participate in political activities not conducted on campus.
Amendments to the three relevant bills have been tabled: the University and University Colleges (Amendment) Bill, Private Higher Educational Institutions (Amendment) Bill and the Educational Institutions (Discipline) (Amendment) Bill.
